Tardiness

I. OBJECTIVE

1. To provide guidelines on the policy and sanctions for tardiness

 
II. DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. Tardiness – reporting for work later than the required starting time or after the allowable grace period.

 
III. GENERAL POLICIES

Grace period equivalent to 5 minutes shall be allowed for employees coming in for their shift. Corresponding salary deductions shall apply for those employees who come after the grace period.

• 6-15 minutes late: 15 minutes deduction or 0.25 of an hour
• 16-30 minutes late: 30 minutes deduction or 0.50 of an hour
• 31-59 minutes late: 1 hour deduction

As a policy, an employee who reports late for work shall not be allowed to render overtime work unless requested by the immediate superior due to necessity in operations.

An employee who comes in half-day (1/2 day) late will not be permitted to work unless the tardiness is justified by a reasonable excuse like due to natural calamities or a family emergency.

A sanction for tardiness shall be given to any employee who will commit four (4) counts of tardiness or a total of sixty (60) minutes late in one (1) cut-off period or in two (2) consecutive weeks, whichever comes first.

• First Offense – Verbal Warning
• Second Offense – Written Warning
• Third Offense – Six (6) days Suspension
• Fourth Offense – Ten (10) days Suspension
• Fifth Offense – Fifteen (15) days Suspension
• Sixth Offense – Thirty (30) days Suspension w/ warning of dismissal
• Seventh Offense – Dismissal

The offenses will be counted throughout the whole calendar year. After the calendar year, the sanction will begin again at verbal warning.
